SALLY RUSSELL
I am a fourth generation native to the Monterey Peninsula and have been a practicing professional artist for 15 years. My personal work is primarily based in construction and three dimension. I am fascinated by the interplay of shape, color, texture and pattern and the unlimited possibilities they create. My totemic-like sculptures are an exploration of these elements and I am currently working on a series of large paintings which relate to my ceramic sculpture.
I have also been a designer and manufacturer of a home accessories line sold across the nation for several years. I love color and texture and am obsessed with striking clever combinations. My work is perfectly imperfect and I find comfort in the world of irregularity. Turning to teaching was a natural path for me. I have an 8 year old daughter and I love children's art. Picasso once said that "every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up".
